Ability One

The AbilityOne Program is the largest source of employment for people who are blind or have other significant disabilities in the United States.  This program has yielded employment for over 56,000 Americans with disabilities.  The Goverment purchases quality products produced by non-profit agencies employing such individuals thoughout the country.  Pioneer is one such agency. There are more than 600 non-profit organizations that employ these individuals and provide quality services and goods to the federal government at a fair market price.  The Program is administered by the Committee for Purchase from People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled.  The program is an indepentent federal agency, that reseives assistance from National Industries for the Blind, and NISH-Creating Employment Opportunities for People with Significant Disabilities.

The AbilityOne Program has allowed these individuals to acquire job skills and training, receive wages and benefits, and gain greater independence and quality of life.  They have the opportunity to enjoy participation in their communities and can leverage their AbilityOne skills into other public and private sector jobs.

Pioneer has two AbilityOne contracts and 100% of work on these contracts is done by individuals with disabilities.  The contracts are to produce cold weather sleeping mats for DLA (Army) Troops Support and DCMA (Marines) Natick Contracting.  We have been producing the mat for DLA since 1985.
